It just keeps getting better…

Max finally responded this morning. Here’s what he had to say:

Hi Michael,

We only allow ads for lingerie if the product advertised for is Lingerie and not otherwise. We do NOT allow ads for guns or any other ammunition on the site.

Please edit the image and re-submit for review.

Thanks,

Max
Facebook

No guns, eh? Check this out:

This ad may surprise Max and the intrepid Facebook Ads Team…it almost looks like Facebook is advocating we shoot Senator Hatch!

Gee, Max, how does that square with Facebook Ads policy IV-J: “Ads may not promote the sale or use of weapons, ammunition, or explosives.” (Found here.)

Meanwhile, the following images are given by Facebook as examples of “acceptable” (see here):

nope, not sexy at all – completely “acceptable” for Facebook

WAY less of a turn-on than a pregnant belly, right Facebook?

As a reminder, here’s the heinous, overly-sexual, negative, awful, scary, way-too-contoversial-for-the-poor-Facebook-Ads-Team image that they simply cannot accept:

Version 2, with the offending “Canceled” removed – still not good enough!

So, here’s the email I just wrote back to Max:

Dearest Max,

Edit the image, how, exactly? I did as you asked and removed the word “Canceled” (the title of the product I am advertising), since it was way too negative for the sensitivities of the Facebook Ads Team. That was only sufficient to get it approved for ten hours. The question mark was also, apparently, too much for you. So, what might you suggest I do to bring this ad into conformity and get it approved for more than ten hours? Can you be specific? Is it just too much skin? Should I use a pregnant belly in silhouette? If I do, can I put the title of the novel back on it? Or would that just be too “negative” for your standards?

You may be interested to know that a poll of Facebook users conducted on my website indicates the following:

Question:

Is the cover of Canceled appropriate to be used as an ad on Facebook?

Responses:

YES! It’s fine as-is! = 86.6%

Only if you put the pregnant belly in some lingerie and hand her a gun. = 13.4%

I don’t know, it’s a tough call. = 0%

No! It’s too controversial for Facebook! = 0%

I’ve shared mine; I’d love to see your data regarding “negative user feedback” that you mentioned in a previous email. Also, please address why the modified ad was approved and then once again disapproved. Another “error,” perhaps?

One final note, you state that “We do NOT allow ads for guns or any other ammunition on the site.” How does that explain the attached (one of many such ads I’ve seen)? [I attached the screen shot of the gun ad shown above.]

Thank you for your continued diligent work in this herculean effort to get a simple ad posted on Facebook.

-Michael

Folks, your assistance in continuing to make this go viral on Facebook (and Tweet it, too!) will be so greatly appreciated!

Until next time…
