I have no idea how this happens. Each week I write this blog, I have one of my short stories in mind, based on a list in a spreadsheet. My goal this whole year has been to work my way down the list, in order, and tie a piece of current news to the story of the week.
And somehow, no matter how bizarre or outlandish the topic of this week’s short story, there is almost always some sort of easy way to tie it into a current news story. It’s uncanny.
Take, for example, this week’s story, SOLE SURVIVARRRGH. It’s about a pirate who abducts two Americans. And what was in the news last week? Pirates abduct two Americans. Seriously, it’s like I live in the Bermuda Triangle or something. Which, by the way, is where all this happens in my story.
I usually like to tie this story in with International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19), but it also works pretty well for the day after Halloween, since, after all, the guy in this short story looks like a trick-or-treater on steroids.
Anyway, let me know if you enjoy SOLE SURVIVARRRGH, matey! It’s available on Amazon (Kindle) and Smashwords (Nook, iPad, Sony, Kobo, and everything else).
